Implant-Supported Dentures
The lower dentures present the most difficulty both for patients adjusting to dentures for the first time and for experienced denture wearers. It can be difficult to enjoy certain foods, or even to speak with confidence, if you fear that your lower teeth will begin to float in your mouth.
Dental implants can be used to stabilize removable dentures. This usually involves a special type of abutment or attachment that is shaped like a ball. A retaining component, usually an O-ring, is incorporated in the dentures. The O-ring snaps over the ball when the denture is seated, giving the denture stability and allowing you to be more comfortable and to avoid embarrassing denture movement.
What Are Mini Implants?
Mini implants are one-piece implants that contain both the root portion as well as the attachment, the ball. Mini implants are smaller in diameter and are usually used in cases where there is insufficient bone for traditional implants.
